Although promoted as a science fiction novel the author insists that the book should not fall under this category. While I understand the grouping of this novel under science fiction I believe it is more than that, a novel whose backdrop may be apocalyptic but is so much more. The synopsis is a group of traveling actors and musicians who perform only Shakespeare throughout the Great Lakes region. With each central character we are constantly thrown into narratives based on before and after the viral outbreak that killed 99% of the population. It has elements of pop culture and "high" literature which can be great for young adult discussions on what is important in our society, who defines this importance and how the need for explanations or understanding can lead to horrible acts.
